Don't do it because you have to, do it because it's right

Sometimes, a question lingers long after asked. Last week, someone looked over my shoulder while I was painting and asked:
“Do you actually follow all those rules? Like putting the eyes one-third down the face?” It made me think and smile. Because no—I don’t paint by the rules in a textbook. It's easy easier than that, I look. I look at people, at expression, at what makes someone them.

The so-called “rules”, I follow them not because I’m supposed to, but because they match reality. And that’s very different.

It reminded me how often we do things just because we think we should. Because it’s expected. Because that’s how it’s done. But sometimes, you need to let go of the rules… to make space for what feels right.

Whether you’re painting, running a business, or simply living your life—dare to look. Really look. Trust what you see.
And let that be your guide.
