Some characters stay with you long after the story ends. For me, the Troll King in Efteling’s Sprookjesbos (Fairytale Forest) has always been one of those figures.
Towering, still, and full of secrets, he sits upon his mossy throne, watching over his realm like an ancient guardian. As a Dutch artist who grew up visiting the park, painting the Trollenkoning felt like honoring a part of my childhood and cultural imagination.
The Efteling Fairytale Forest continues to inspire many of my works, as it weaves folklore into physical space so beautifully. My version of the Troll King is not just a tribute to the park—it’s a portrait of timeless magic, grounded in Dutch soil and imagination.
